Location
Bukoba, Kagera, region in the North West of Tanzania
Current situation
Women and girls in Tanzania face many oppressive situations and challenges. They often do not have the same access to education or the job market as men. Early marriages and pregnancies often force girls to abandon their studies.
One out of three women is married before her 18th birthday and quits school to get married (World Bank, 2019). Only 27% of girls complete secondary education in Tanzania, and among the poorest children, that number drops to 6%. (UNICEF, 2019)
Background
The school was founded in 1988 with the aim of providing an opportunity for girls to receive a good secondary education, which is a prerequisite for obtaining a decent job. In a previous project, AMU supported the school in the installation of internet, computer equipment and training in new technologies.
Activities of the project
The goal of the new project is to set up a demonstration farm, which will allow the school to provide students with theoretical and practical trainings in the fields of agriculture, health, nutrition, and environmental management. The project also foresees:
69'906.10 EUR : Budget allocated to the project
55'924.88 EUR : Contribution of the Luxembourgish Government
13'981.22 EUR : Contribution of Action pour un Monde Uni asbl
Local partner: Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
Co-financed through the framework agreement 2022-2026 signed between the MAEE - Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs and the NGO Action pour un Monde Uni on 02.02.2022.
next visit planned in 2023

One out of three women is married before her 18th birthday and quits school to get married (World Bank, 2019). The feminisation of poverty is a real challenge in Tanzania, where more than half of the female population (60%) lives in extreme poverty (UN Women 2022).
Background
In 2018, AMU supported an initial project to empower women in Bukoba by providing vocational trainings as well as micro-credits. The success and high demand of the first project are the driving forces behind this project. Access to micro-credits, which is linked to completing the entrepreneurship trainings, has a positive effect on women's independence, their status in society as well as their relationships with their partners.
Activities of the project
The project provides women with:
49'997.20 EUR : Budget allocated to the project
39'997.76 EUR : Contribution of the Luxembourgish Government
9'999.44 EUR : Contribution of Action pour un Monde Uni asbl

Location
Nyakaiga, Karagwe District, North East Tanzania
The project is located in Temeke district in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dar es Salaam has about 5.3 million inhabitants. The city is divided into three main districts, of which Temeke is the poorest.
Current situation
The challenges of a Tanzanian hospital in a rural area are often enormous. Poor facilities and inadequate equipment have resulted in trained staff preferring to work in hospitals in larger cities. The low purchasing power of the rural population and the very modest support by the Tanzanian government force hospitals to face very difficult economic situations.
The Nyakaiga region is particularly affected by diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, acute respiratory infections and HIV/AIDS.
Background
AMU has been working in this area for several years. The shortfalls of the hospital are therefore well known. Motivating doctors and nurses to work in Nyakaiga remains the great challenge for this hospital. It is at this level that AMU is trying to intervene by financing specialised professional training and by installing an adequate infrastructure which is lacking.
Activities of the project
The project provides for the training of 4 candidates in diagnostic radiography, pharmaceutical sciences, medical laboratory and applied accounting. In addition, 3 people will be able to complete secondary education. In order to counteract the rural exodus of specialised personnel, it is planned to build quality housing for 5 families of the medical personnel of Nyakaiga Hospital.
189'112.08 EUR : Budget allocated to the project
151'289.66 EUR : Contribution of the Luxembourgish Government
37'822.42 EUR : Contribution of Action pour un Monde Uni asbl :

Location
Isingiro, Kagera region, Tanzania
Current situation
Public schools, especially those in the more rural areas of the country, have difficulty meeting the basic standards required. Poor infrastructure and crowded classrooms, as well as poorly trained teachers are some of the reasons for this.
The Diocese of the region (through its development organisation) seeks to play its part in the education sector by ensuring that all human beings enjoy their right to education. It also aims to make a significant contribution the national growth and poverty reduction strategy, which focuses on improving access to quality education services.
Background
With this project, AMU wants to support its local partner in the creation of sustainable structures in the field of education. The school's management expects the enrolment rate to increase from 60% to 80% by 2027. Infrastructure is therefore crucial to ensure the proper functioning of the school.
Activities of the project
The project provides for the construction of 10 new modern classrooms by 2025. The classrooms will have comprehensive facilities to support teaching and student learning in a single structure and will maximize the limited available land.
The main beneficiaries of the project are the students and teachers of the school. The project will directly benefit:
199'889.79 EUR : Budget allocated to the project
159'911.83 EUR : Contribution of the Luxembourgish Government
39'977.96 EUR : Contribution of Action pour un Monde Uni asbl
