Current situation
Around 1.5 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. HIV/AIDS remains one of the leading causes of death in the country, followed by malaria. The virus continues to affect women and girls in particular, often because they are victims of sexual violence and abuse. In addition, women in many areas face limited access to education, health services and social protection.

In 2020, 6.8% of women aged 15-49 are living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda, while 3.9% of men are affected by the virus (UNAIDS).

Background
HIV patients face high levels of unemployment, low-paying jobs and poverty. Stigma remains a common problem in the community. The project aims to improve patients' psychosocial support and economic well-being. A holistic approach ensures quality care, continuous medical followup and vocational training to reintegrate patients into society.

Activities of the project

• Professional trainings for medical staff
• Workshops on ARV treatment for HIV-positive youth
• Awareness raising campaigns among the population on HIV/AIDS, sexual violence, communicable diseases, etc.
• Strengthening of laboratory services
• Vocational training program in agriculture, sewing, handicrafts, soap production and entrepreneurship for HIV positive patients
• Home visits of patients
• Vocational trainings for project managers

The project will directly benefit:

• 800 patients per year
• 2.250 students in vocational training
• 109 hospital staff members
