Location
Limete district in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Current situation
The Moyi mwa Ntongo Medical Center, built in 2006, inaugurated its maternity and pediatric ward in 2016. The center enjoys a good reputation and wide social acceptance in the neighbor-hood and beyond. An average of 200 patients a day visit the center, and in the maternity ward there are up to 40 births a month.
In D.R. Congo, at least 4 women die every hour from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. 23 newborns die every day due to complications at the time of birth. (UNFPA, 2021)
Background
In the DRC, there are only few staff with specific skills in maternal and neonatal health. To this end, various professional trainings are offered to the staff of the medical center. In addition, the medical center's specialists plan to train six other AMU partner hospitals in obstetrical gynaecological ultrasound, followed by an internship over several months.
Activities of the project
In order to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates, the following trainings are planned:

Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Current situation
Many children and teenagers in the D.R. Congo do not have the chance to complete a professional training or even visit a primary or secondary school. The goal of the project is to strengthen the educational system by supporting an elementary school and a remedial center, as well as providing a vocational training program for marginalised women.
In the D.R.Congo, half of all girls between the ages of 5 and 17 do not attend school. (UNICEF, 2018) Factors such as the role of girls in households, early marriages and pregnancies are at the root of the low school enrolment rate for girls.
Background
The Mikondo remedial center provides primary education to children who have not been able to follow the normal primary cycle or who have not had the opportunity to start primary school at the age of 6-7 years for various reasons. Ndjili Brasserie Primary School is located in a semi-rural area. The school, located in an overcrowded area, is receiving more and more students each year.

The town lacks a basic preventive health care system, which leads to high mortality rates, particularly among women and children.
D.R.Congo has the 4th highest under-five mortality rate in the world, with 291 out of every 1000 children dying before their 5th birthday. (WHO, 2019)
Background
